The Sustainability Commission partnered with the Harvard’s Climate Initiative Committee to bring together the Towns of Groton, Harvard, Ayer and Shirley, along with their school districts to apply for the Mass Save | Municipal Energy Manager Grant . The purpose of this first-of-its-kind grant is to help municipalities hire a dedicated resource to manage their energy use, become more energy efficient and reduce GHG emissions from facilities with a particular focus on K-12 school buildings. We were awarded the grant, which provides $360,000 over three years to fund a Regional Energy Manager. Andres Correa was hired in August 2025, and in his first year assisted or led $734,000 in grant funding awarded among the four towns, with $388,000 awarded to Groton alone for energy efficient upgrades to the GDRMS buildings and Groton Police Station.
